What appliance needs testing at workplace?
All electrical appliances are designed for connection to power by a flexible cord which requires to be inspected. The following appliances are excluded from testing and tagging under Australian standard AS/NZS 3760:2010
- Appliances at a height over 2.5 meters
- Fixed or hard-wired appliances
- Display, sample or new stock in a retail shop or warehouse
- Appliances which require to be disassembled to conduct testing and tagging
Is it cheaper to conduct testing and tagging by staff?
If you wish to conduct the test by one of your staff, you will need to consider the following expenses:
- Testing and tagging equipment such as meter, printer, tablet and software which cost more than $4,000 which need to be calibrated annually and approved by authorized organizations.
- Initial and ongoing training staff
- Testing and tagging materials such as tags, etc.
Based on our experience of test and tag, we recommend you to outsource your test and tag to an authorized company to have the better result as well as low-cost service.
What type of appliances need test and tag?
All portable plugs in appliances located in your workplace in a powerpoint placed less than 2.5 meters from the ground require inspection by a qualified technician. As an example, the following appliances require test and tag:

Is Hashtag Safe Work insured?
Hashtag Safe Work has workers compensation and 20,000,000.00 public liability insurance as well as national police checks for every technician. Certificates of insurances are available upon request.
How long will test and tag take?
As every item should be comprehensively inspected before passing the test, each test may take up to a few minutes. Our technicians are experienced and trained to conduct the test as effective as possible and ensuring minimal disruption to your daily duties.
Will every items need to be turned off during test and tag?
Yes, before the test, the appliances require to be turned off or powered down. After completion of the test, every appliance will go back to the situation they were before.
What happen to the failed items?
After conducting testing and tagging, whatever has been failed, will be placed separately and will pass it to the contact person to your workplace. Moreover, you can find every failed appliance in your report with its location and test result.
How frequently do I need to do testing and tagging?
AS/NZS 3760 has certain rules for re-inspection which vary according to the location of the equipment, the environment in which it is being used and the level of risk related to use.
AS/NZS 3760 provides re-inspection time which varies from 3 months to 5 years. Our technician will consider all the factors associated with your appliance to be tested most effectively and safely.
Hashtag Safe Work will notify you before your test expiry date to ensure you are always compliant with AS/NZS 3760.
Is there a “tolerance” for re-conducting testing and tagging?
Yes. AS/NZS 3760 advises a tolerance of 2 weeks prior to the due date and 2 weeks after the item is due for retesting. This provides you to have 4 weeks in total to schedule for the test.
What does the test result include and how can I receive it?
The test result will be ready within 3 days after completion of the test. It contains the result of different tests such as visual, insulation resistance and etc. Every appliance has a location and unique ID. The report can be exported in PDF, CSV and Doc format.
What test and tag record must be kept?
AS/NZS 3760 needs the following record of tests:
- A test tag attached to each appliance must demonstrate test date, retest date, a person conducting the test and result of the test.
What areas of workplace require testing and tagging to satisfy OH&S legislation?
Portable equipment located in all area of the workplace must be tested and tagged to satisfy OH&S regulation. Some of these areas might include:

Is appliance need testing and tagging while they are working properly for years?
Appliances can still operate normally when they are unsafe. There are some internal issues associated with safety which are not performing well while the appliance functions normally. Or the cord of the appliance could be worn or damaged while it is functioning normally. In both situations, it can cause electrical shock.
What is the rate of fail items in testing?
Based on our experience number of failed items may vary from 3% to 10% depending on the location of appliances and its usage.
